Moving Checklist
6 weeks before move out day
- Create a "move" file to store related information and collect receipts for moving expenses.
- Visit IRS website at www.irs.gov and view publication 521 to learn more about tax deductible moving expenses.
- Contact your insurance agent to transfer property, fire, and auto insurance.
- Organize medical, dental records, eyeglass perscriptions etc...
- Contact your local post office or go online at www.usps.com to fill out change of address form.
5 weeks before move out day
- Start organizing your move.
- – Items to leave behind or dipose of.
- – Items for Scott Relocation to move.
- – Items you will move yourself.
- Start to include children in the move process.
- – Have them pack some of their own things.
- – Suggest the way they would like their new room.
- – Give them My Move Kit provided by Scott Relocation.
4 weeks before move out day
- If possible have garage sale of items you are not taking with you.
- If you have chosen to pack yourself, visit Packing Tips provided by Scott Relocation.
- Start collecting suitable containers and packing materials if you plan to pack yourself. Scott Relocation can furnish these materials for a reasonable charge.
3 weeks before move out day
- Notify Scott Relocation of any changes to your move whether you are adding or subtracting items from planned household goods shipment or changing dates.
- Back up computer files and pictures on a disk. Consider taking these disks with you, since computer software is delicate and sensitive to temperature changes.
2 weeks before move out day
- Make final packing decisions.
- Dispose of non-allowable items.
- Have your automobile serviced if traveling by car.
- Start packing
1 week before move out day
- Drain oil and gasoline from your lawn mower and power tools to ensure safe tiransportation. Refer to owner's manual for specific instructions.
- Arrange to have your utilities disconnected the day after move out day.
- Arrange to have your utilities connected the day before your scheduled move in day.
- Prepare a trip kit for moving day
